Reflections on the LIV Houston Event: A Hot Weekend with Golf’s Finest
This past June, Bryce Williams and I had the privilege of attending the LIV Houston event, and what a weekend it was! The heat was relentless, with the kind of humidity that Houston is famous for, but that didn’t stop fans from coming out in droves to witness some of the best golfers in the world.
"Golf, But Louder": A Slogan That Resonated
The slogan "Golf, But Louder" really struck a chord with Bryce and me. We attended the tournament all three days and were particularly excited about the shotgun start, a unique feature for LIV Golf. It was refreshing to see our city host the LIV tournament for the first time, and from all accounts, it was a resounding success. The staff at the Golf Club of Houston and everyone involved in the event made it an exceptional experience.
The Experience
From the players to the atmosphere, everything about the tournament was top-notch. The feedback from fans was overwhelmingly positive, despite the challenging temperatures. One thing that could have made the event even better would have been more hydration stations—perhaps doubling or tripling them would have helped beat the heat. While the Houston summer in June was intense, the energy on the course more than made up for it. Next time, though, maybe we can get Houston back on the schedule in November or earlier in the season!
Bryson DeChambeau: The Showstopper
For me, Bryson DeChambeau was the standout. Seeing him in person was an experience I won’t forget. His presence on the course is larger than life. While his crowds might not yet rival those of Tiger Woods, they were still impressive, especially considering the conditions. It was incredible to watch the best players in the world up close and personal, particularly on the 18th hole at the Golf Club of Houston—a hole I’ve played many times, often struggling to make birdies. Seeing these pros navigate the course with such skill was truly humbling.
LIV Golf: Here to Stay
The LIV tour made a strong impression, not just with the golf but with the community activities like the Green Up initiative, which was supported by Team Ironhead. The energy at the event, from the Pro-Am to the final day, was electric. It’s clear that LIV Golf is here to stay, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Check out some of the photos and videos we captured from this incredible event. And if you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for the Dallas tournament in September for the tour championship—you won’t want to miss it!
